Buying organic food can be tough (it’s part of the reason Organic Liaison offers an Organic Network Locator, so you can find grocery stores and farmer’s markets near you that sell organic foods), but it’s definitely worth tracking down. Why? It simply TASTES better.
Many people strongly believe you can TASTE the difference between organic and conventionally grown produce. In fact, according to a study from The Organic Center, 43 percent of consumers surveyed said they bought organic food for its “better taste.” Organic food is grown in soil that’s healthier, since it’s not full of toxic substances from pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, chemical fertilizers, and so on. What makes the soil on an organic farm healthy is the mix of complex molecules, which helps bring out the best possible flavor.
Unlike conventional produce, which could be flown in from thousands of miles away, organic foods are often shipped from places a lot closer to your neighborhood. This means the food is fresher for longer, so that biting into an organic strawberry tastes like you just picked it. Compare that idea to biting into a strawberry that’s been sitting on a grocery store shelf for a week. Yech!
Organic foods are not just better for you because of their taste. Studies funded by the European Commission have indicated that fruits and vegetables cultivated organically offer more nutritional value than those grown on conventional farms. That’s because organic plants have more micronturients and complex components. Organic foods also have higher levels of vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, iron and zinc, not to mention ever-important health benefits like antioxidants, flavanoids, carotenoids and other phytochemicals that work to keep you healthy.
So take the time to find an organic grocery store or farmer’s market in your neighborhood and have a taste test: try organic fruit versus conventional fruit (make sure it’s the same kind). Can you taste the difference! We sure can!
P.S. Even hamsters love the taste of organic food! Take a look at this unbelievably cute video:

Kirstie, I have been over weight since I was born. Cabbage soup diets, whatever, cocaine, speed, smoking nothing works. Love your show. I live in Milwaukee, WI and I think you should have me on your show to give your assistants, assitants a run for his money. I am an animal lover and unemployed, with a great sense of humor. Plus my husband is really sick and I need a vacation! I love your hair! I want to loose weight with someone who wants to challenge each other. If I was a star I would pick you to help me.
